Landon Kemp’s Big Day Propels Cherokee Bluff Varsity Bears Past Jefferson Dragons Varsity Baseball

Landon Kemp drove in four runs on two hits to lead the Cherokee Bluff Bears past the Jefferson Dragons 14-5 on Tuesday. Kemp singled in the fourth inning, scoring two runs, and singled in the fifth inning, scoring one.

Jefferson Dragons got on the board in the second inning after Steven Tavares homered to center field, scoring three runs.

Cherokee Bluff Varsity Bears scored two runs in the bottom of the second on a home run to left field by Beau Bruns.

Bubba Coleman singled to center field, which helped Cherokee Bluff Varsity Bears tie the game at three in the bottom of the third.

Jefferson took the lead in the top of the fourth. Tavares singled, scoring one run, to give them the leg up, 4-3.

Cherokee Bluff flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fourth, scoring seven runs on four hits to take the lead, 10-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Kemp on a full count that drove in two.

Gabe Gowder started on the hill for the Cherokee Bluff Varsity Bears. The starting pitcher surrendered six hits and five runs (three earned) over five and one-third innings, striking out nine and walking one. Eston Simpson started on the hill for Jefferson. The starter surrendered three hits and seven runs (six earned) over three and two-thirds innings, striking out six and walking five. Bryce Fontenot tossed one and two-thirds innings of scoreless ball for Cherokee Bluff Varsity Bears in relief. The reliever allowed zero hits, striking out three and walking three.

The Cherokee Bluff Bears tallied nine hits in the game. Kemp and Coleman each collected two hits. They had a strong eye at the plate, piling up 10 walks for the game. Fontenot, Jordan Wilkerson, Kaden Thompson, and Cody Bridger led the team with two bases on balls each.

Tavares, the number seven hitter for Jefferson, led the way with five runs batted in. The first baseman went 2-for-4 on the day. Tavares and Jackson Sims each collected two hits for Jefferson. Jefferson Dragons turned one double play in the game.

Cherokee Bluff Varsity Bears will travel to Jefferson for a double header on Friday.

Cherokee Bluff Varsity Bears outsted Holy Innocents Episcopal Varsity Bears 5-1 on Monday.

Cherokee Bluff Varsity Bears got on the board in the bottom of the second inning after Tanka Mukono singled, scoring one run, and Ty Corbin homered to left field, scoring three runs.

Jacob Vokal began the game for Cherokee Bluff Varsity Bears. The right-handed pitcher allowed three hits and one run (zero earned) over five innings, striking out four and walking three. Davis Jabaley stepped on the hill first for Holy Innocents Episcopal Varsity Bears. They surrendered four hits and four runs over one and one-third innings, striking out one and walking one. Jack Sparks pitched two innings of no-run ball for Cherokee Bluff Varsity Bears in relief. The righty allowed one hit, striking out two and walking one.

Cherokee Bluff Varsity Bears amassed nine hits in the game. Kaden Thompson, Caleb Miele, and Corbin each collected two hits for Cherokee Bluff Varsity Bears. Corbin led Cherokee Bluff Varsity Bears with three runs batted in. The center fielder went 2-for-3 on the day. Thompson stole three bases. Cherokee Bluff Varsity Bears ran wild on the base paths, accumulating five stolen bases for the game.

Zach Jackson, Braxton Padgett, Matt Luigs, and Grant Bradley each collected one hit for Holy Innocents Episcopal Varsity Bears.

Ethan England collected three hits in four at bats, but Cherokee Bluff Varsity Bears lost to Holy Innocents Episcopal Varsity Bears 6-3 on Saturday. England hit a solo home run to center field in the fifth inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the third inning.

Holy Innocents Episcopal Varsity Bears were the first to get on the board in the first when Davis Jabaley singled, scoring one run.

Holy Innocents Episcopal Varsity Bears added four runs in the second. Zach Jackson singled, making the score 5-0.

England hit a solo home run to center field in the top of the fifth for the Cherokee Bluff Varsity Bears.
